F. Emma Michalski
F. Emma Michalski, 91, of Butler, died Thursday morning at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot.
Born Nov. 2, 1925, in West Winfield, Butler County, she was a daughter of the late Louis Varljen and Mary (Dovjak) Varljen.
Emma had written an essay titled “For Democracy We Fight” and had won a scholarship, which allowed her to attend the Butler Business College, where she graduated in 1944. She was partner and owner of the Plane View Inn on Route 8 in Penn Township for 42 years and had also worked as a secretary for the Penn Champ Oil Company for eight years.
She was a member of Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church and had been a former member of the Penn Township Women's Club.
Emma's family would like to thank Concordia Lutheran Ministries for the great care she received, especially the skilled nursing staff.
Surviving are her son, Chester P. “Chuck” Michalski Jr., and his fiancé, Deborah Bowser, of Butler; two daughters, Joan Louise Michalski, of Butler, and Mary Ann Williams-Freehling and her husband, Eric Freehling, of Valencia; five grandchildren, Mandee, Nicholas and Kevin Williams, Victory and Nash Michalski; three brothers, Frank Varljen, of Georgia, John Varljen, of Butler, and Louis Varljen, of North Carolina; two sisters, Mary Heist, of Butler, and Viola “Min” Green, of Saxonburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester P. Michalski, whom she married Nov. 8, 1947, and who died Nov. 14, 2008; one brother, Leo Varlen; and one sister, Matilda “Tillie” Wolfe.
MICHALSKI — Friends of F. Emma Michalski who died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church, 1304 E. Cruikshank Road, Butler. The Rev. Robert J. Cedolia, Pastor, will officiate.
