Ruth Rea, 95, of The Grove at Harmony, formerly of Evans City, went into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021.

Born in Pittsburgh in 1925, she was the daughter of Walter and Evelyn Bell Umbel.

She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Evans City.

Ruth enjoyed working at MSA in Callery until her retirement. She loved to read. Ruth was accomplished at crocheting. She won many ribbons, including many blue ribbons, for her beautiful afghans at the Butler Farm Show. She loved all animals, especially cats and dogs. She wrote poetry and had some of her poems published in Ellery Queen, one inside the back cover.

She is survived by two daughters, Cindi Sharrar (John) of Prospect, Holly Blinn of Ladson, S.C.; and one son, Don Rea (Becka) of Portland, Ore.; two granddaughters, Heidi Blinn of Pittsburgh and Samantha Schwartz (Dustin) of Summerville, S.C., and one grandson, John Sharrar (Louise) of Bellefonte; four great granddaughters, Alyssa and Rachel Sharrar, Savannah Schwartz and Vanessa Blinn; two great great-grandsons, Curtis Chyben Jr. and Christopher Gunther. Also surviving is one sister, Wanda Spithaler of Butler; a sister-in-law, Joan Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Rea, in 1999; two brothers, Walter (Sonny) and Joseph Umbel; three sisters, Fanchon Hindman, Dorothy Forsythe and Dolly Helbling; and a son-in-law, Gary Blinn.

Her family would like to thank the staff at The Grove for their loving care.

Rea — Arrangements for Ruth Rea, who died Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, are under the direction of The Jay Bryan Funeral Home of Prospect. Due to COVID 19, there will be no visitation or public service.
