Lacking members, Harrisville council can't meet
HARRISVILLE — Borough Council could not meet Monday because not enough members were present.
Two council members were absent, and council was set to receive the resignation of member Liz Kendall, whom Harrisville council president Marty Stemmerich said officially submitted a letter of resignation July 12.
According to Stemmerich, the council has to appoint a replacement member within 60 days after receiving a letter of resignation. Stemmerich said an individual has expressed interest in filling the seat.
Because Monday's meeting could not be held, she said she will look into rescheduling, rather than postponing, the agenda to the September council meeting.
“We've never had this happen before,” Stemmerich said. “I need to go talk to the judge to see how to go about rescheduling.”
Stemmerich also said a council member, Doug Ferensic, has not attended a council meeting in more than a year. She said he is still being paid, but the council is unable to take action.
“Legally, we can't do anything,” Stemmerich said. “His term is up at the end of this year.”
