SLIPPERY ROCK TWP, Lawrence County — Swift currents and more rain this morning likely will again hamper search efforts for a fisherman presumed drowned in Slippery Rock Creek on Saturday, authorities said.

For the fourth consecutive day at McConnells Mill State Park, searchers from the creek’s shoreline today are looking for any sign of John P. Latulippe, 38, of Glenshaw, Allegheny County.

“It’s just too swift to put any divers in the water,” said park manager Dan Bickel this morning, noting that the creek is more than 2 feet higher than normal due to the recent rain.

Latulippe fell into the creek while fishing near the park’s covered bridge about 9 a.m. Saturday, authorities said.

Since then, swift water rescuers, dogs and kayakers have been called in to help in the search.

Authorities believe Latulippe’s body could be caught up in rocks or in an eddy in a high rapids area of the creek known as “Triple Drop,” about 100 to 150 yards downstream from the covered bridge.
