Man charged with trying to break into Butler bank
A Florida man is facing charges in Butler County after police say he attempted to break into a local bank on Dec. 23.
Timothy P. Roose, 55, of Sunrise, Florida, was charged with felony attempted burglary, attempted criminal trespass and misdemeanor criminal mischief after an investigation into the incident at the Northwest Savings Bank, 151 Pittsburgh Road, Butler.
Butler Township police filed the charges after multiple departments responded to an attempted burglary at the bank after employees who arrived for work later that morning discovered a hole smashed into the exterior bank wall near the ATM and deposit box.
Officers cleared the building, and nothing appeared to be disturbed, taken, damaged or tampered with inside. Immediately inside of the access hole is a small vault for cash deposits and the ATM, which also did not appear to be tampered with, police said.
The affidavit of probable cause states that surveillance footage showed a white man, with his nose and mouth covered with a scarf, wearing a black cap or beenie-type hat, dark-colored gloves and a thick jacket similar to the Carhart-style, trying to break into the closed bank using hand tools around 4:03 a.m. on Dec. 23.
The security features surrounding the ATM where the would-be robber chose to make entry prevented him from getting inside the building, police said.
