A Jefferson Township man will spend 2 to 5 years in state prison for breaking into three homes in his township last fall.

Clint E. Nagle, 28, pleaded guilty to identity theft as well as three counts each of burglary and theft by unlawful taking.

The burglaries took place last November, when homeowners reported the loss of tools, power equipment, a .22-caliber rifle, cash and personal items.

Additionally, Nagle reportedly took one victim’s credit cards and made $600 in unauthorized withdrawals.

Nagle was arrested after a store security video reportedly captured him using the victim’s credit card. At the time, he was allegedly wearing a knitted hat he’d stolen from the same victim.

After Nagle’s arrest, a number of the stolen items were recovered and returned to their owners. In all, Nagle was ordered to reimburse the victims and their insurance companies $1,359 in restitution.

Nagle was sentenced today by Butler County Judge William Shaffer.

In addition to the prison time, Nagle was ordered to spend another three years on state probation and pay about $1,000 in fines as part of a plea arrangement the defendant made on two other cases.

In one of the cases, Nagle pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. In the other case, the defendant pleaded guilty to fleeing from police and numerous traffic violations.
