BUTLER TWP — Police on Monday filed misdemeanor assault and other charges against a man stabbed last month during an altercation at the Walmart.

Alex Dorenkamp, 19, of Chicora is accused of punching Justin D. Woods as the two men squared off just after midnight April 28 to fight outside the store. He also slammed Woods against the wall.

Woods admitted that he pulled a knife and stabbed Dorenkamp as they clashed. He also called 911 to report stabbing the other man after being punched.

Dorenkamp needed hospital treatment for a knife wound to the stomach, authorities said. Woods suffered minor injuries to the head, face and arms.

Police that night arrested Woods on felony assault and other charges, He was placed in the Butler County Prison and released later that day after posting $5,000 bail.

While the motive for the fight was not certain, it appeared that some kind of incident the previous night between the two men was the provocation.

Dorenkamp apparently believed Woods had run his girlfriend off the road in Butler in a traffic incident, authorities said. Woods denied the accusation.

Police said Woods' version of the previous night's incident involved his asking Dorenkamp's girlfriend out. He said he did not know at the time that she and Dorenkamp were a couple.

The two men met up by chance April 28 at Walmart.

When police got to the store, they found Dorenkamp lying in the parking lot bleeding several parking spaces away from the front of the store's grocery entrance.

Officers also found Woods standing outside, where he told a 911 dispatcher that police would find him.

Police also seized the alleged weapon, which they described as an 8-inch folding knife with a 3-inch serrated blade.

Woods is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and harassment.

Dorenkamp is charged by summons with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment.
