County duo helps Behrend softball

ERIE — In the first game of a doubleheader against Hilbert, Freeport grad Ashleigh Schmidt hurled a three-hit shutout, singled, and scored a run in a 9-0 Penn State Behrend softball victory.

Jocelyn McNany, a Seneca Valley alum, notched a double in the first half of the twinbill and a home run in the second for the Lions.

Inclement weather stops Lernerville

BUFFALO TWP — Cold and wet weather has forced Lernerville Speedway to cancel its Opening Night for the second consecutive Friday.

The Fab4 opening night — and first night of points racing — will now be April 22. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps set for 6:50 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m.

Hunt, fishing club receives NRA grant

The Butler City Hunting & Fishing Club has received a $1,900 grant from the National Rifle Association Foundation.

The club said in a statement that the grant will allow it to continue and grow its youth programs. Without the grant, the club said its local youth would be unable to participate in shooting sports.
