After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Mars Softball Craft Show returns to Mars Area School District on Saturday to offer homemade goods for sale and raise funds for the Mars Lady Planets Softball Boosters.

Michele Goodworth, varsity softball coach and organizer of the event, explained that the admission charge of $3 for adults and $2 for students benefits the boosters organization, while the profits of booths are kept by the individual crafters.

The event will take place at the Mars Area Middle School, a change from previous years, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“I have about 70 crafters, spread out throughout the middle school, in the hallway, cafeteria, and the gym,” Goodworth said.

Items include wooden crafts, stained glass, birdhouses, wind chimes, chocolates, handmade soaps, crochet items, Easter decorations, among other items. A raffle basket drawing also will be available.

“We have taken trips before. We have traveled to Florida for spring training,” Goodworth said. “We use it for our banquet, for snacks, gear, sweatshirts, and that kind of stuff.”

Before the pandemic, she said, an average of 500 people attended the event each year. This year will be the 13th year the show has run under the management of the softball boosters.

The team gets involved with helping out, too, Goodworth added.

“The (softball) girls have to work and volunteer,” she said. “They’ll help the vendors carry their items in and carry them back to their car. They offer to go get the vendors lunch, so that they don’t have to leave their table.”
