Butler’s seventh annual Ring in the Arts! on New Year’s Eve will be from 5 p.m. to midnight and will once again be powered by area musicians’ performances.

Admission will be $5 per person, which includes children older than 6. Children 6 and younger are admitted free.

Performances and events will take place Dec. 31 at two locations, Associated Artists of Butler County Art Center at 334 S. Main St. and the Grace @ Cavalry Church at 123 E. Diamond St.

Grace @ Cavalry Church will kick off the festivities with a pork and sauerkraut dinner from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7:15 p.m.

Occasional Divas will perform at the church at 8 p.m.

Less than a block away at the AABC Art Center, Mac Martin and the Dixie Travelers will bring their unique brand of bluegrass to the stage from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m.

From 9:15 to 10:30 p.m., jazz legend Harold Betters returns to the venue he packed last year.

Closing out the evening will be Karma Acoustic from 11 p.m. to 12:15 a.m.

While at the Art Center, guests will be able to browse entries in its annual Holiday Show & Sale.

The city lost the state funding that made the event such a hit in its first few years, working with a budget of $10,000 in 2008, $5,000 last year and just $3,000 this year.

“We’re patching it together, but we’ll have a good time. We always do,” said Butler Mayor Maggie Stock.

The Butler High School Tornado Big Band, which filled the Grand Ballroom at Cornerstone Commons to capacity last year, is not in the bill for 2010, as the band will be in Arizona to perform in the Fort McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade on New Year’s Eve.

The Tornado Big Band is set to return to Ring in The Arts! in 2011.
