Benjamin Rattigan
Benjamin J. Rattigan Jr., 73, of Butler passed away Sunday at his home.
Born in Chicora on Dec. 3, 1941, he was the son of the late Benjamin J. and Elizabeth Donaldson Rattigan Sr.
He was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
Ben was employed as a mail handler with the U.S. Postal Service. He retired with 20 years of service. He was also formerly employed by the American General Life Insurance Co.
A Vietnam War veteran, Ben served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years, retiring with the rank of chief petty officer.
He belonged to the VFW Post 249 of Butler, the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and the Navy Fleet Reserve. He was actively involved with the VFW honor guard and with the military honors bereavement group.
Ben was an avid golfer and bowler, but he enjoyed spending time with his family most of all.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rose Ann Easley Rattigan; two sons, Michael J. Rattigan and his wife, Judy, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Patrick L. Rattigan and his wife, Stacey, of Butler; three daughters, Sheila A. Green and her husband, Carl Sr., of Lexington Park, Md., and twins Shannon M. Koprivnak and her husband, Gregory, of Kittanning and Sheri L. Pascazi and her husband, Gino, of Butler.
In addition, he is survived by 12 grandchildren, Heather (Cory) Sturgeon of Nashville, Tenn., Danielle Rattigan of Jacksonville, Fla., Travis (Krystal) Rattigan of Butler, Tyler (Kristen) Rattigan of Butler, Carl (Christin) Green Jr. of Lexington Park, Md., Alicia (Shane) Conrad of Lexington Park, Md., Kayla Green of Lexington Park, Md., Kassandra Koprivnak, of Kittanning, twins Krista and Kari Koprivnak of Kittanning, Maria Pascazi of Butler and Gino B. Pascazi of Butler.
Ben is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Colton and Chloe Green of Lexington Park, Md., and Kenleigh and Sydney Rattigan of Butler; two brothers, Richard Rattigan and his wife, Shirley, of Chicora and Robert Rattigan and his wife, Hazel, of Chicora; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and John Rattigan; and three sisters, Sally Rattigan, Karen Rattigan and Frances McElroy.
RATTIGAN — Friends of Benjamin J. Rattigan Jr., who died Sunday, April 12, 2015, will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler.Burial will take place in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, North Oakland.Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the VFW Post 249 of Butler and the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora.The bereavement group of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish will meet at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Tuesday for a scriptural wake service.For more information, visit www.martinfh.net.
