STATE COLLEGE — Western Pennsylvania’s entrant in the boys lacrosse division of the Keystone Games captured the bronze medal recently.
Players from Butler, Seneca Valley, North Allegheny, Sewickley Academy, Franklin Regional, Hampton, Peters Township and Shady Side Academy put together a 4-2-1 record in the 14-team competition.
Local players included Ian Bergbigler from Butler, Jordan Culichia, Dan Peterson, Cole Fyock and Wendell Frank from Seneca Valley.
Chiappini wins golf club crownSLIPPERY ROCK — Greg Chiappini finished first in the championship flight of the Oakview Golf Club Championship over the weekend.Bob Yuhas took second place while Doug Knox finished third. Lou Gacek won the first flight, followed by Tim McLister and Sam Courtney. Doug Sutch won the second flight, followed by Frank Pinto with Dwight Crowe and Gary Donelli tying for third.Steve Boyd won the third flight, followed by Doug Halliday, with Bob Fey and Mike Houston tying for third. Ron Vodenichar won the fourth flight, Bill Carroll and Buddy McLaughlin tying for second.
Boros captures Kalkreuth ClassicWHEELING, W. Va. — Joe Boros of Treesdale Golf and Country Club fired a 4-under par 66 to capture the Kalkreuth Classic at Wheeling Country Club Monday.Boros won by two strokes over six other golfers. In the process, he also won the Senior Event by two strokes over Scott Davis and grabbed one of three Mylan Classic Tri-State PGA Sectional Qualifier spots.That tournament will be played Aug. 30 to Sept. 2 at Southpointe Golf Club.Other local golfers at the Kalkreuth Classic include Denny Dolci of St. Jude Golf Club (t-8th, 69), Jody Barrett of Cranberry Highlands Golf Course (t-24th, 72); Shawn McCall of Cranberry Highlands and Rob McClellan of Butler Country Club (t-32nd, 74) and Dennis Munko of Birdsfoot Golf Club and John Aubrey of Aubrey’s Dubbs Dred (t-36, 75).Dolci was third in the Senior Event, Barrett tied for seventh and Aubrey was 10th.
Owens, Seahawks agree on deal RENTON, Wash. — Terrell Owens is coming back to the NFL, hoping the Seattle Seahawks’ search for another veteran wide receiver will get him off the sidelines.The 38-year-old Owens had a tryout with the Seahawks in the morning, and hours later the team announced it had agreed to terms with the former star receiver. He hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2010 season with Cincinnati, when he caught 72 passes for 983 yards and nine touchdowns.
