Butler school board moves meeting to Herman fire hall

Butler school board members hear a report from Gannett Fleming engineers at a February community meeting at Herman Fire Hall.

SUMMIT TWP — The Butler School Board's next meeting has been moved to the Herman Volunteer Fire Hall, the district announced today.

The board will have its education committee meeting at 5:30 p.m., its finance committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. at its agenda setting meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Though an agenda was not ready Wednesday, acting superintendent William Pettigrew said that it will include a presentation about Summit Township Elementary School from engineers with Gannett Fleming.

Gannett Fleming has been working with the district to make recommendations for correcting the problems with the school's water system, which contains unsafe levels of lead and copper.

Though Pennsylvania American Water is planning to extend a public water line to the school this summer, Pettigrew said last week that the elementary students will start the year at Broad Street School in Butler so the district will have time to connect to the new line and run a series of tests to make sure that the water is lead free.

The fire hall is located at 789 Herman Road.
