A New Jersey man waived extradition in Butler County Court on Wednesday, and will be returned to face charges in that state following the disposition of theft and fraud charges against him in Butler County.

Bryan J. Brown, 35, of Bridgeton, N.J., was wanted out of that state on a parole violation warrant following Butler County charges on May 4.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Lope said the extradition will be stayed until the county charges are disposed of, which include felony access device fraud and conspiracy to access device fraud.

Brown's attorney, Public Defender Charles Nedz, said they are contesting the charges.

He was charged alongside Deanne T. Giffins-Matlack, 32, of Butler after Butler City police allege that they used a Butler woman's stolen credit and debit cards to rack up $1,005.99 in unauthorized transactions.

Following the report of the victim, surveillance video from Target in Butler Township was allegedly used to identify Brown and Giffins-Matlack as making transactions, police said.

On May 6, officers were called to the Dollar General store on North Main Street for a report of the two being in the area, and they were allegedly found in the parking lot of the nearby Rite Aid store.

Brown allegedly unsuccessfully tried hiding in a building close by, according to court documents.

Giffins-Matlack was also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. They were arraigned, with Giffins-Matlack being released on her own recognizance and Brown being held in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

Both await formal arraignment on July 11.

Brown was also charged with felony arrest before requisition regarding the warrant.
