Ethel R. Smith
Ethel R. Smith, 81, of Fenelton, went to be with the Lord early Thursday evening, Nov. 14, 2019, at Chicora Medical Center.
Ethel was born Oct. 18, 1938, in Chicora. She was the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Wanita Barkley Byers.
Ethel attended St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot.
She was a talented seamstress. Ethel enjoyed shopping and good conversation. She had excellent penmanship and was well-known for corresponding with friends and relatives, and writing many cards and letters. She enjoyed the company of her grandkids, family gatherings and holidays, especially Christmas, which was Ethel's favorite time of the year.
In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with her brother and took wonderful care of her parents until their passing.
Ethel retired as a nurse's aide from Concordia and had previously worked at Magnetics, Moonlight Mushroom and Rockwell International in California. She had been employed as an accountant and manager of her brother's rental apartments in Huntington Beach and Blythe, Calif.
Ethel is survived by her daughter, Sylvia A. Adams and her husband, Francis, of Fenelton; her son, James Joseph Smith and his wife, Kathy, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Lucas R. Adams of Fenelton, Danny Ekas and his wife, Patricia, of Butler, and Sara R. Smith of Martinsburg, W.Va.; as well as a number of step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Byers of Missouri; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and her loyal friend, the family dog, Bummer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Simon J. Miller; and two brothers, Dennis A. Byers and Ralph Grant “Ricky” Byers.
SMITH — Friends of Ethel R. Smith, who died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, will be received from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 330 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, with the Rev.
