Alletta E. 'Betty' (James) Whitmire

Alletta E. “Betty” (James) Whitmire, 92, of Butler passed away at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

She was born April 18, 1921, in Worthington to the late George “Walter” James and Florence P. (Kryder) James.

Mrs. Whitmire enjoyed crocheting and playing the piano, guitar and accordion.

Mrs. Whitmire is survived by three sons, David R. (Denise) Whitmire of Karns City, Richard Whitmire of St. Petersburg, Pa., and George (Marie) Whitmire of Cabot; four daughters, Carol E. Namendorf, Patricia F. Whitmire, Mary Ann (Russ Jr.) Yockey and Lois (John) Swigart, all of Butler; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lester Whitmire, who she married on May 10, 1940, and who passed away on Aug. 20, 2002; one great-grandson, Ian Whitmire; one brother, Allison W. “Jess” James; and two sisters, Evelyn P. Scudder and Marian L. Miller.

WHITMIRE — There was no public visitation for Alletta E. “Betty” (James) Whitmire, who passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Private burial took place in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Butler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family in care of the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc. 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001.
