Head-on collision injures at least 2 people on Route 8

BUTLER TWP — A head-on collision on Route 8, in front of the Greater Butler Mart, injured at least two people, left two vehicles disabled and closed the northbound lanes Saturday morning while emergency crews cleared the wreckage.

A sedan and an SUV involved in the 7:30 a.m. crash each came to rest in the northbound lanes. Northbound traffic was detoured up Litman Road and through the Greater Butler Mart while township police, firefighters from South Butler and Lyndora, and medics from Butler Ambulance Service worked at the scene. Both vehicles had crippling front-end damage.

No information was immediately available about what may have occurred, or the conditions of the vehicles’ drivers or any passengers, but at least two people were taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital, according to emergency broadcasts.

One of the injured reportedly was flown by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital.
