BUFFALO TWP — A Westmoreland County man who police say tried to eat bags of heroin to conceal them from troopers after a traffic stop Friday faces felony drug and other charges.

The incident happened about 8:20 a.m. after state police pulled over Quran A. Overton, 36, of New Kensington for driving a car with illegally tinted windows, authorities said.

Trooper Kurtis Glasgow said he smelled a “strong odor” of marijuana coming from the car. While patting down Overton, the officer felt what he believed was “a brick of heroin.”

A brick of heroin is street jargon for 50 small, glassine bags of heroin. The stamp bags are usually packaged in bundles of 10.

The suspect, however, claimed that what the trooper was feeling were ecstasy pills. He was arrested and handcuffed, and placed in the back of the officer's patrol car.

At the barracks in Butler Township for a strip search, Overton removed the suspected heroin “and was attempting to eat it,” according to court documents.

Glasgow snatched the heroin from Overton's hand and the defendant subsequently spit the bags out of his mouth, police said.

The search, in all, turned up at least 68 bags of heroin, eight ecstasy pills, a bag of suspected marijuana and three bags of suspected cocaine.

Overton was arraigned on felony and misdemeanor drug possession charges. He also is charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and having improper sunscreening on his vehicle.

He is being held in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail.
