Matt Adams collected five hits and drove in six runs Tuesday, but the Slippery Rock University baseball team had to settle for a doubleheader split withLock Haven at Critchfield Park.

The Rock won the first game 16-4 behind a pair of doubles and four RBI from Adams.

In a 7-3 loss in the nightcap, Adams went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

The split drops SRU (19-9 overall, 5-3 in the PSAC West) into third place, behind California (Pa.) University and Shippensburg.

In the first game Tuesday, The Rock fell behind 4-3 before scoring 13 unanswered runs for the rout.

Grove City High School graduate Billy Herman drove in two runs with a double and Moniteau grad Travis Trimbur added a two-run double in the fourth inning. Slippery Rock High School grad Billy Messer also drove in a run.

Mark Tanner was the beneficiary of the scoring outburst to pick up the win.

In the second game, TheRock managed only six hits.

Lock Haven (8-18, 2-6) scored four unearned runs in the third inning.

Herman had an RBI double in the loss.

Stacey Rhoades tied the program's record for home runs in a season, but could not prevent The Rock from dropping a Monday doubleheader at California (Pa.), 3-2 and 7-5.Rhoades hit a solo homer in the first game and a three-run shot in the nightcap, giving her nine for the season and tying Meghan McHenry's school record set last year.She had three hits and four RBIon the day. Kayla Ray had a two-run single to account for SRU's others runs in Game 2.The Rock (14-14, 1-5) visits Clarion for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader today.

Seneca Valley graduate Ashley Greene won her singles match to help SRU (17-4, 2-1) roll to an 8-1 win over PSAC West rival Clarion.
