BlueSox clinch crown!
CHILLICOTHE — The Butler BlueSox clinched the Prospect League’s East Division title Tuesday night with a 9-6 victory over Chillicothe.
West Virginia’s 6-2 win over Champion City earlier in the day gave the Sox a chance to cap the division championship on the road, which they did, thanks in large part to three hits apiece from Tanner Murphy and Brady Gulakowski.
Murphy’s onslaught included a double and triple while Gulakowski blasted his seventh home run of the season.
Butler High graduate Mark Gross earned the win after giving up six runs (four earned) on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. Wyatt Daugherty, also from Butler, picked up the save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The streaking Sox (35-21) have won six straight games and nine of their last 11.
The top two teams in the East and West divisions qualify for the Prospect League playoffs, which begin Sunday at the site of the second-place team.
