Lux seeks GOP nomination for commissioner
The receiving manager at the Boscov's store at the Clearview Mall is the latest candidate for Butler County commissioner.
Mark Lux, 54, of Clay Township announced today he is seeking one of two Republican nominations in the May 19 primary.
Lux said he decided to run because of the turmoil surrounding the commissioners' office this term.
“To restore the dignity and respect of the commissioners' office,” he said of why he is running. “It's what the people expect and deserve.”
Lux said the county, which he described as a laughingstock to other counties, needs a fresh start.
“I think officials on the top level to carry on the way they do is an embarrassment to the people of the county,” he said. “How can you lead when everyone seems so disgruntled?”
If elected, Lux would review the county budget to ensure there is no frivolous spending and to prioritize infrastructure needs, such as bridge repairs.
Lux said his abilities to lead and resolve issues make him qualified for the post.
He is a former manager for the Hospital Council of Western Pennsylvania/AmeriNet Central of Warrendale, where he created 16 jobs in a new communications department.
He is a former equipment operator for Allegheny County as well as a former officer and board member for the Avalon Volunteer Fire Company in Allegheny County.
Among the prior boards and committees he's served on is the North Boroughs YMCA.
Lux lives in the township with his wife, Lori.
