Home invasion survivor cites 'personal holocaust'
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A doctor whose wife and two daughters were killed in a home invasion called the ordeal a “personal holocaust” and said he has trouble sleeping and trusting.
Dr. William Petit spoke today at the formal sentencing to death of Joshua Komisarjevsky.
Komisarjevsky will join his accomplice, Steven Hayes, and nine other men on Connecticut’s death row.
Petit said he lost his entire family, his past and future and said the crime shows evil does exist in the world.
His wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, grew up in Slippery Rock. Her parents still maintain a home there.
Petit said his wife was a nurse, his friend and confidant, and a wonderful mother.
He noted that his 17-year-old daughter, Hayley, would be in medical school by now and that 11-year-old Michaela loved to cook and sing.
