Rock hoops sweep at home

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s men’s and wonen’s basketball teams scored a sweep Wednesday night at Morrow Field House.

The Rock men topped the 100-point mark for the first time since November of 2018, running past Penn State Fayette, 101-52. SRU (2-1) forced 18 turnovers with its pressure defense, turning them into 28 points on the other end.

The Rock women (2-1) rallied from a 15-point deficit by outscoring Ursuline 23-12 in the fourth quarter for a 68-64 victory. Jamiyah Johnson had 26 points and 19 rebounds in the contest.

Daeja Quick contributed 18 points and five assists while Kennedy Middleton tallied 12 points, four steals and three rebounds.

SRU’s men’s team played 13 different players and received points from 12 of them. The Rock snared 70 rebounds and had a plus 33 advantage on the boards.

Frankie Hughes scored 20 points in just 18 minutes of action. Zaire Rogers scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Jonathan McFall had 12 points and nine boards.

SRU will host East Stroudsburg at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Rock women travel to Malone (Ohio) for a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
