Cottage lost in Middlesex fire
MIDDLESEX TWP — A vacant cottage at 150 Hornyak Lane burned to the ground Tuesday afternoon.
Multiple departments responded around 2:30 p.m.
According to 911 dispatch, the cottage was burning and smoking excessively. Given the cottage’s location in a field, tanker trucks pumped water down a mile-long road through hoses to the structure. Multiple tankers were used during the duration of the fire.
Township fire chief Walt Hamilton said the cause of the fire as yet is undetermined, and there is nothing left of the cottage. No one had lived in the cottage for some time, according to reports.
No injuries were reported.
Crews had the fire out by 4:20 p.m., and the scene was cleared shortly after.
Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company, Adams Area Fire and Butler Township Volunteer Fire Districts, Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department of Allegheny County, Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company, Callery, Penn Township and West Deer Volunteer Fire Departments, Quality Ambulance Service and Middlesex Police Department all responded to the scene.
