Moraine Scouts honor Rickard, Northwest Bank

PENN TWP — The Moraine Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America will honor Dennis Rickard and Northwest Savings Bank at the Butler County Good Scouts reception on June 26 at Conley Resort.

Rickard of Saxonburg is a Good Scout Honoree. He is a 57-year veteran of the Boy Scouts, obtained the rank of Eagle and is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow.

Rickard was the county sheriff from November 1981 until his retirement in January 2010.

He teaches at Butler County Community College and was a faculty member at Indiana (Pa.) University, the University of Pittsburgh and Auburn University at Montgomery and Columbia Southern University.

He raised more than $1 million as the chair of the United Way of Butler County’s annual fundraising campaign, and held an annual golf tournament for 10 years, donating $110,000 to community charities.

He is a Mason and has served as master of his lodge and is a past presiding officer of the York rite bodies of Butler. He is a past commander-in-chief of the Valley of New Castle, A.A.S.R., and was coronetted a 33rd degree mason in 1991.

Rickard was a district chairman and president of Moraine Trails Council, and has been awarded the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver by the council as well as the Silver Chief Award from the Order of the Arrow lodge.

Northwest Savings Bank is being honored as Company of the Year.

Headquartered in Warren, the company operates 166 banking locations throughout Pennsylvania, northeastern Ohio, western New York, and northern Maryland. It has eight offices in Butler, Cranberry Township and Kittanning.

The bank has had a strong relationship with the Boy Scouts throughout its history.

Wayne and Barb Conley donated their facility to host the event which will start with a reception at 6 p.m. The formal program will run from 6:45 until 7:30 p.m.
