Donald L. “Hugger” Greenawalt, 79, of Butler passed away Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Aug. 5, 1934, in New Brighton, Pa., to the late Harry L. Greenawalt and Bessie (Dambach) Greenawalt.

Mr. Greenawalt was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot. He worked in the wheel works and scheduling department at Armco for 32½ years, retiring on Aug. 31, 1989.

Mr. Greenawalt was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956.

He was a member of the Penn Township Vets Club, the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department and was a hospital volunteer at the front desk for the American Red Cross.

Mr. Greenawalt is survived by his daughter, Debra Greenawalt; his son, Timothy Greenawalt and his wife, Mary; his two grandchildren, Dustin and Kayla Greenawalt, all of Butler; his sister, Dorothy Nicklas of Renfrew; and his 28 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Carol Greenawalt, who he married on May 26, 1954, and who passed away on Dec. 17, 2009, and his son, David Lee Greenawalt.

Greenawalt — The friends of Donald L. “Hugger” Greenawalt, who passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.The funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Barry Keurulainen of St. Luke Lutheran Church officiating.Burial will take place in the Brownsdale Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Concordia Visiting Nurses, C/O Concordia Lutheran Ministries Foundation, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023 or to the St. Luke Lutheran Church, 330 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, PA 16023.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
