William Carl Brethauer Jr.

William Carl Brethauer Jr., 80, of Portersville passed away peacefully Wednesday.

Born July 2, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Bill was the son of the late William Karl Brethauer Sr. and Dorothy Roma (Haenel) Brethauer.

Bill was a member of the Zelienople Church of the Nazarene, a volunteer with the Portersville-Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, a former supervisor with Muddy Creek Township, and he served on the Muddy Creek Township Planning Commission.

Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on two destroyers, the USS Twining and the USS Yarnall, out of San Diego and Japan.

He worked 44 years as a union sheet metal worker and was a 63-year member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 12. Bill also had a small fabrication shop and a dust collector service company.

Bill was a hobby farmer and raised Hereford cattle. In addition, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, working outdoors and keeping busy with projects, often assigned to him by his wife, Marion! He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.

Bill is survived by his wife, Marion Lois (Brautigam) Brethauer, who he married March 8, 1958; two sons, Eric (Mary Jane) Brethauer and Kirk (Carol) Brethauer; three daughters, Michele Shaffer, Laura (Mike) Hawkins and Brenda (Jim) Herold; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer (Hawkins) Lang, Amanda (Hawkins) Haag, Bette Jane Brethauer, Ken Doerr, Andrea Shaffer, Luke Shaffer, Katie Shaffer, Alex Herold, Levi Herold and Marina Snowden; and one great-grandson, Logan Shaffer.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his two brothers, George and Richard Brethauer; his stepsiblings, Audley Lloyd and Beverly Wierzchowski; and his son-in-law, Tom Shaffer.

BRETHAUER — Family of William Carl Brethauer Jr., who died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday at the Zelienople Church of the Nazarene, 115 Nazarene Court, Fombell, with the Rev. Bill Baker, pastor, officiating. Bill will be laid to rest at the Greenlawn Burial Estates in Butler.In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary donations be made to the Portersville EMS, P.O.
