Kaufman House changing ownership
ZELIENOPLE — The Kaufman House will change hands this week.
The Main Street restaurant and hotel, which closed in 2011 after a kitchen a fire and is part of the borough's revitalization project, was purchased by the Butler County Tourism Foundation in December.
The goal is to restore the building back to its original shape and to operate the property as a restaurant, coffee shop, lounge and a boutique hotel with 18 rooms.
However, the foundation is selling the Kaufman House to the borough with the closing becoming official Wednesday. A press release from the foundation states the BCTF is “unable to see the project through.”
“It is in the best interest of Kaufman House and BCTF to keep the project alive by selling the property to the Borough of Zelienople,” according to a press release from the foundation.“All necessary steps are being taken to position Kaufman House for a successful sale and both parties are committed to making a seamless transition.”
