Leonard Hodgkiss

Leonard G. Hodgkiss, 58, of Butler, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Leonard, known affectionately by friends and family as “Rabbit,” was born in Butler on Aug. 23, 1962. He was the son of the late John C. Hodgkiss and the late Gertrude O’Donnell Hodgkiss Blair.

He attended Butler area schools before entering the construction industry as a brick and stone mason. He was employed for more than 20 years with his brother, Dan, at Hodgkiss Masonry. At a young age, Len’s infectious smile and large front teeth earned him the nickname “Rabbit,” or as his friends called him, Rabb. Rabb enjoyed helping his friends work on their cars. He enjoyed his Harley and his dogs. He taught his nieces and nephews how to care for their vehicles.

Rabb is survived by his loving wife, Christine “Chris” Herrock Hodgkiss; his fur baby, “Lady Bug”; his brothers, John E. and Mary Ann of Sunset Beach, N.C., Daniel W. and Shannon of Chicora, Theodore J. and Judith of Georgetown, Texas, Robert F. and Darlene of Butler, Lawrence A. and Patty of Woodbine Md.; sisters, Patricia Elder of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Marilyn R. and Gordon Hartman of Butler, and Trudy C. and Daniel McNamara of Woodbine Md.; his mother-in-law, Alberta Tex Herrock of Butler; brother-in-law, Raymond P. Jr. and Carol Herrock of Butler; and sister-in-law, Cindy Herrock of Calif. Rabb is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry G. and Thomas J. Hodgkiss; his paternal grandparents, Thomas P. and Catherine Colfer Hodgkiss; and maternal grandparents, Daniel J. and Mary Magee O’Donnell; his father-in-law, Raymond P. Herrock Sr.; and Christine’s grandparents, Merrill and Rosalia Seabolt.

Hodgkiss — Friends of Leonard G. Hodgkiss, who died Tuesday, April 20, 2021, will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.
