Alcoa gives $10,000 to SRU department

SLIPPERY ROCK — Alcoa Inc.’s corporate environment, health and safety outreach program for talent development and recruiting has presented Slippery Rock University’s safety management department with $10,000 to be used for scholarships and new laboratory equipment.

The money will provide five, $1,000 scholarships to SRU safety management majors with the remaining $5,000 applied toward purchase of applied technology laboratory equipment.

SRU’s safety management program has previously received a number of Alcoa grants.

VFC fish dinners begin Feb. 20

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team’s annual fish dinners will take place every Friday during Lent.

The dinners will take place Feb. 20, Feb. 27, March 6, March 13, March 20, March 27 and April 3.

They will take place at the fire hall, 162 Elm St., from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 8 years old.
