Route 19 weekend closure planned

CRANBERRY TWP — Route 19 in Marshall Township, just south of Cranberry, will be closed Friday evening through Monday morning.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission announced the closure Thursday, which will allow work crews to set steel bridge beams for the new overhead bridge carrying the Turnpike over Route 19. If the weather does not cooperate, work will be postponed for one week.

Route 19 will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday between Thorn Hill Road on the north and Warrendale Bayne Road on the south.

Drivers heading north on Route 19, toward Cranberry, are asked to take Warrendale Bayne Road to Interstate 79 southbound, take Exit 73, return to I-79 northbound and take Exit 78 to Route 228. Then, motorists can take Route 228 west to Route 19.

Motorists driving south on Route 19 can take Route 228 to I-79 south and exit at Exit 73, return to I-79 northbound, and take Exit 75 to Warrendale Bayne Road and return to Route 19.

The detours are approximately 10.5 miles long.
