WORTH TWP — The fire at Moraine State Park’s bike concession Wednesday night seems to have been caused by a lightning strike, officials said.

A call was placed at 6:38 p.m. for a reported fire at the shop, located in the park at 157 North Shore Drive. According to Dustin Drew, park manager, a witness said lightening hit the building, and shortly after, smoke rose from the roof.

The building is park-owned and leased to a concessionaire to rent bikes to park-goers during the season.

“For the upcoming season, we don’t have a plan as of yet,” Drew said. “We don’t know if we’ll replace the building or what.”

The Portersville Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department was the first to arrive on the scene. They were later assisted by fire departments from Slippery Rock and Harmony, as well as Portersville EMS and Butler Ambulance Service.

Crews remained on scene for almost two hours. By the end, the building had heavy smoke damage and holes in the roof.

There were no injuries reported in relation to the fire, according to dispatches.
