Charges reduced against suspect in manhunt case
EVANS CITY — A man who allegedly led the Adams Township Police Department on a seven-hour manhunt had his charges reduced Tuesday at the request of the victims.
Grant Andrew Werner, 31, of Center Township, faces no felonies after the prosecution withdrew a first-degree felony burglary charge and dropped a terroristic threats charge from a third-degree felony to a first-degree misdemeanor. This was at the request of the victims, Assistant District Attorney Russell Karl said.
Police said on Sept. 10 Werner prevented his mother from entering her house because he was upset she would not sell 20 acres of the family's farm, so he could purchase land elsewhere.
After she made it into the house, Werner is accused of retrieving a gun, unlocking the house door and pointing the gun at her.
From there, according to Detective Mike Bailey's affidavit, Werner's mother ran toward a bathroom, heard a gunshot and locked herself in the bathroom.
When police responded, according to the affidavit, they were unable to find Werner, believing he could have been “anywhere on or off the property.” He eventually was taken to the Butler County Prison at 1:13 a.m. Sept. 11.
