Butler staffed and ready for winter roads
While reports have been swirling about a shortage of plow truck drivers in the area and region, Butler County is staffed and ready for the snowy roads.
Mike Mattis, state Department of Transportation District 10 Butler County manager, said there are plenty of drivers at the ready in the county to clear the snow from the roads and keep drivers safe.
He said District 10 has 84 full-time operators and hires about 15 seasonal plow truck drivers each year.
A pair of recent PennDOT recruitment events held in District 10 allowed district officials to interview and hire a number of seasonal drivers on the spot, Mattis said.
“They were very successful, and I'm hoping to keep them going moving forward,” he said.
Seasonal workers are employed from mid-October through April, Mattis said.
