Butler opens 'Curtains' for this year's musical
Butler High School will present the musical “Curtains” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 and 23 in the Butler Senior High auditorium, 120 Campus Lane.
Tickets are $5 and are available for presale starting Monday at May’s Music Shoppe, 247 E. Jefferson St., and at the door on the nights of the performance.
It is directed by Dale VanLaningham. Danielle Smith is the choreographer.
“Curtains” is a musical with a book by Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), lyrics by Fred Ebb (Chicago, Cabaret) and music by John Kander (Chicago, Cabaret), with additional lyrics by Kander and Holmes.
Based on the original book and concept by Peter Stone (Titanic, 1776), the musical is a send-up of backstage murder mystery plots, set in 1959 Boston, Mass., and follows the fallout when the supremely untalented star of “Robbin’ Hood of the Old West” is murdered during her opening night curtain call.
It is up to Lt. Frank Cioffi, a police detective who moonlights as a musical theater fan, to save the show, solve the case and maybe even find love before the show reopens, without getting killed himself.
Nominated for eight Tony awards in 2007, “Curtains’” David Hyde Pierce won the Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical.
