Lura E. Cawthorne

Lura E. Cawthorne, 86, of Butler, formerly of Prospect, peacefully passed away early Friday morning at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler while under hospice care.

Born July 27, 1931, in Butler, she was the daughter of Cecil R. and Florence M. Boyd Beachem.

Lura was a member of the Zion Baptist Church in Slippery Rock. She had a bachelor's degree in English and at one time was a foreign exchange student to Saltzburg, Austria.

She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to read.

Survivors include her two sons, Richard K. Cawthorne of Pittsburgh and John D. (Jenna) Cawthorne of Butler; one daughter, Abby Cawthorne (Greg) Walowen of Chicora; three grandchildren, Jesse Cawthorne of Butler, Valerie Montgomery of Chicora and Neil Montgomery of Chicora.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her grandson, Robbie Montgomery.

CAWTHORNE — A private graveside service for Lura E. Cawthorne, who died Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, was conducted Saturday at the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Slippery Rock with the Rev. Thomas Meling officiating.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zion Baptist Church, 154 Currie Road, Slippery Rock.Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Jay Bryan Funeral Home in Prospect.
