Glenn C. Schoentag

Glenn C. Schoentag, 62, of Highland Drive, Butler, died unexpectedly of natural causes Friday morning, shortly after his arrival in the emergency room at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Glenn was born in Butler on April 10, 1953. He was the son of Frank C. Schoentag of Butler and the late Peggy K. Long Schoentag.

He was a 1971 graduate of Butler High School. He had been employed at Magnetics in East Butler for 43 years.

Glenn was affiliated with the Faith Fellowship Alliance Church.

Mr. Schoentag was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed watching all sports on television, sometimes watching more than one event at a time.

He was a longtime baseball coach and umpire in East Butler as well as a softball player and coach.

He was an avid NASCAR fan, and his favorite driver was Dale Jr.

Glenn enjoyed being the life of the party and dancing and entertaining other guests at weddings.

He looked forward to family vacations, water skiing and hunting.

Christmas was his most favorite time of the year. He looked forward to decorating his house, family gatherings and parties and playing “Santa” for the kids. Glenn's most cherished role was that of “Papa” to his grandkids.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Cynthia M. Thornton Schoentag, who he married in Kane on June 12, 1976.

Also surviving are three sons, Glenn C. Schoentag Jr. and his wife, Nicole, of Butler, Geremy M. Schoentag and his wife, Bethany, of Chicora and Christopher M. Schoentag and his wife, Jackie, of Butler; six grandchildren, Ayden and Hunter Schoentag, Chloe and Caylee Schoentag and Ty and Jaden Schoentag; two step-grandchildren, James Kriebel and his girlfriend, Emily, and Whittney Kriebel; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Rylynn and Talon; four sisters, Nancy Wilson of Chicora, Peggy Spurk and her husband, Mike, of Kissimmee, Fla., and Lorri Schoentag and Carla Schoentag, both of Butler; his father-in-law, Jackie Thornton of Chicora; two brothers-in-law, Donald Thornton of Johnsonburg and Jim Mason and his wife, Marcy, of Sligo; as well as a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Mason; and his mother-in-law, A. Irene Thornton.

SCHOENTAG — The family and friends of Glenn C. Schoentag, who died Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Faith Fellowship Alliance, 200 Faith Way, Fared Drive, Butler.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Richard Jenks, church pastor, officiating.
