The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Butler voted Thursday to sell its three-story building on East Cunningham Street to businessman Joe Gray for $110,000.

The building was initially listed with an asking price of $154,900 last fall.

Gray, owner of Arris Construction and J&J Properties, said Thursday that he had some ideas for the property, but does not have immediate plans.

One reason Gray pursued the purchase is that he owns Cornerstone Commons at the corner of Main and East Cunningham streets which is adjacent to the authority's building, he said. The two are connected by a fire escape.

The authority acquired the building in December 2013 and had been using the first floor for offices and the third floor for storage.

The second floor has been rented out as office space and most recently has been used as temporary offices for construction contractors working on the Centre City development.

The authority will move its operations to the office space inside the tier garage on West Cunningham Street by July 1.

City maintenance employees have agreed to move everything from the current building to the new office down the street, said Veronica Walker, authority secretary.

The city agreed to rent that office space to the authority for $1 a month.

The lease also gives the authority the power to sublease its office space.

One renovation being done before the move is that a wall and door are being added so that confidential files in the authority's office can be locked up.

The tier garage office space was formerly occupied by the Butler County Adult Probation office.
