SUV flips over in creek this morning
OAKLAND TWP — A young woman walked away barely injured early this morning when the sport utility vehicle she was driving ended upside down in a creek after crashing on Thorn Run Road, emergency officials said.
The woman, whose name was not immediately available, told authorities that she lost control of her Ford Escape about 1:10 a.m. after swerving to avoid a tree laying on the road near Center Drive in Oakland Township.
She apparently was traveling home from work.
The vehicle went off the road about 10 feet before overturning and landing on its roof in a shallow creek.
The woman, believed to be 19 or 20 years old, was able to get out of the wrecked vehicle on her own, said Paul Patten, an assistant chief with the Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
She complained of ankle pain but did not need any medical treatment, Patten noted. Her father arrived and took her home.
A flatbed truck later pulled the badly damaged vehicle from the creek.
State police are investigating the crash but an accident report was not available this morning,
