Freeport's Surgil named 'Rising Star'
NEW YORK — At the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (Jimmy Awards) in New York City on Monday, Halle Surgil from Freeport High School was named the Jimmy Awards Rising Star, an award given to one of the 80 students competing during the Jimmy Awards week. The award includes a $2,000 cash prize.
Surgil was the Mancini Award winner for Best Actress this year for her portrayal of Wednesday Addams in Freeport’s production of “The Addams Family.” She attended the national Jimmy Awards with the Best Actor awardee Noah Tobery from Big Beaver Falls High School.
The students attended the awards activities with sponsorship from Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, in partnership with the Pittsburgh CLO.
A program of Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, the Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards celebrate outstanding student achievement in high school musical theater in Butler, Beaver and Lawrence counties.
