No excuse for not knowing the 'bacon' in bill

In an era when few people really rise to the level of deserving praise in the political field, a relatively unknown senator from Wisconsin did something worthy of admiration no matter what your party affiliation might be.

Republican Sen. Ron Johnson put a smile on more faces than a stimulus check by coming up with a requirement before a vote could be had over the $1.9 trillion dollar recovery/wasteful spending bill.

Everyone knows that the two top dogs in the controlling party have hidden major items in the bill to selfishly help their own little corners of the country, but hearing them read out loud for the world to either laugh about or cry about must have really angered them if they have a conscience at all. The senator’s request for a reading took a little less than 11 hours to complete.

Is that unreasonable before you spend about $2 trillion dollars of our money? Not yours, not the government’s, but ours. It was recorded for history that very few members of Congress sat through the reading. That gives them the pathetic excuse down the road at election time that they didn’t know everything that was in the bill.

That excuse is still used today about Obamacare, even by Nancy Pelosi. Maybe this would be a great way to do business, not just in the federal government. It would wipe out the issue that maybe at least one of our reps from Butler County may not be able to read. Let’s just have someone read the bills to him and then it might be possible to get things out of his committee stronghold.

The Senate majority leader was apparently in charge of speaking the easily ridiculed dumb quotes of the week by stating that all that was accomplished by reading the $1.9 trillion piece of legislation was “a couple of sore throats,” and then following it up with a chuckle as he suggested it was time for breakfast and some Baconators, which is a breakfast sandwich that features a large amount of bacon.

Truly appropriate, Mr. Schumer. You may be creating a bacon shortage for the rest of the taxpayers.

Thank you, Sen. Johnson, for slowing down the gravy train.

And please wear your mask.
