Hutchinson will seek reelection to state Senate
State Sen. Scott Hutchinson, R-21st, has announced he will seek reelection to a third term.
Hutchinson was elected to the Senate in 2013 after serving in the state’s House of Representatives for the 64th District from 1992 to 2012.
Hutchinson said as a senator for the 21st District, he fights for the values of rural Northwestern Pennsylvania.
“As state senator, my top priority has been to provide a strong voice for the hard-working families, small businesses and taxpayers of our region,” Hutchinson said. “I support fiscally responsible budgets; promoting our core industries that provide good paying jobs; quality education for all students; and government reforms to protect taxpayers.”
Hutchinson is chairman of the Senate’s Finance Committee. He said he is “committed to a pro-growth tax policy” and “limited government principles.” Among his priorities are education, economic development, rural health care and public safety.
Hutchinson said he believes developing industry and energy opportunities is important for economic vitality.
“Pennsylvania has an incredible opportunity to become energy independent and an economic powerhouse,” Hutchinson said. “I will also continue to focus my efforts on helping to improve the state’s jobs climate by fighting excessive and unnecessary regulations.”
Hutchinson is a member of the Public Health and Welfare committee. His efforts include trying to strengthen rural health care and reform the state welfare system.
Hutchinson said aging Pennsylvanians need accessible care that’s close to home.
“We can’t unduly burden health care providers, particularly our small rural hospitals,” Hutchinson said. “They are already uniquely challenged financially.”
Hutchinson also serves on the committees for Communications and Technology, Environmental Resources and Energy, Finance, Health and Human Services, Local Government, and Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness.
The 21st District includes all of Venango, Clarion and Forest counties, and large portions of Warren and Butler counties.
