Man sentenced for assault
A 36-year-old man who bashed a guy in the head with a chunk of cinder block was sentenced in Butler County Court today.
The incident occurred on North Elm Street in April, according to court records.
The defendant, Michael Karch, got into an argument with a 33-year-old man over a cell phone.
According to court records, at some point Karch hit the other man in the head with a cinderblock. And when police arrived, Karch and the victim’s cell phone were gone, according to court records.
Initially Karch was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
However, as part of a plea arrangement with the Butler County District Attorney’s Office, the other charges were dropped when Karch pleaded guilty to simple assault.
Butler County Judge Timothy McCune sentenced Karch to serve 6 to 23½ months in prison and 50 hours of community service.
