Man who ran from crash scene remains missing
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — There is still no sign — as of Thursday afternoon — of a possibly injured 57-year-old man who fled into the woods after a one-vehicle accident on Monday.
According to state police reports, David McGinty of Slippery Rock was driving north on Route 8 just before 6 p.m. Monday, when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane near Ralston Road and went over an embankment, striking several trees.
McGinty then struck another tree, which disabled his vehicle.
Police, fire and ambulance units responded to the scene and saw McGinty, who appeared to have a head injury, run into the woods on the east side of Route 8.
The vehicle was towed, but police were unable to find McGinty, the report said.
State police used heat-detecting technology and search dogs to look for McGinty on Monday and Tuesday, as did firefighters from the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department.
Family members organized a search on Wednesday night as well.
Trooper Ronald Keston of Troop D in Butler said on Thursday that there is still no sign of McGinty. He said troopers have kept in contact with McGinty's family and no one has heard from him since the accident.
“Hopefully he'll turn up somewhere,” Keston said.
Keston said McGinty had no outstanding warrants and was not wanted by police at the time of the accident on Monday.
He said anyone who sees McGinty, who was wearing a camouflage jacket and blue jeans, or has information on his whereabouts should call the state police at 724-284-8100.
