Howard Eugene Vensel

Howard Eugene Vensel, 83, of Butler passed away Thursday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

He was born Oct. 23, 1933, in Butler, to the late Austin Vensel and the late Della Double Vensel.

Mr. Vensel was a graduate of Karns City High School. He worked for Penreco in the lab for 38 years before retiring in June 1990 and then worked for Campbell Coach Lines as a coach driver for another 10 years.

He was a veteran of the Army.

Howard was a member of the First United Methodist Church and part of the Asbury Sunday school class there. He also belonged to the BUCO Travel Club and Sunset Golf League. Howard enjoyed fishing, golf, hunting and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean, who he married May 21, 1955; three sons, Leonard Vensel and his wife, Brenda, of Chicora, James Vensel and his wife, Ronda, of Chicora and Glenn Vensel of Hagerstown, Md.; one daughter, Barbara Stewart and her husband, Dennis, of Butler; six grandchildren, Richard Vensel, Jeanna Gathers, Michelle Boss, Tisa Vensel, Shane Vensel and Edwin Stewart; four great-grandchildren, Abigail Boss, Nolan Boss, Gage Gathers and Rylee Gibson; one sister, Doris J. Morgan of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Burns; and his daughter-in-law, Marianne Vensel.

VENSEL — Friends of Howard Eugene Vensel, who died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler, with the Rev. Eric Park, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Gillgrist, pastor, officiating. Private burial will take place at the Mount Chestnut Cemetery.
