Woman arrested in store parking lot, charged with dealing drugs

Multiple agencies collaborated on a drug bust Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of Walmart in Butler Township.

Butler County Drug Task Force made the arrest and filed the charges against Nora A. Barker, 60, of Eau Claire, including felony counts of drug sales and criminal use of a phone, as well as misdemeanor drug possession.

According to the task force’s Chief Det. Timothy Fennell, Butler Township police and special agents with the Department of Veterans Affair Office of Inspector General assisted in the operation.

Barker was arraigned Wednesday night by District Judge Joseph Nash, then placed in Butler County Prison on $100,000 bond.

According to charging documents, police set up a controlled buy earlier in the morning and arranged to meet the suspect at the Butler Township Walmart.

“Barker stated she had ‘Xbox’ and they are great,” said the investigating detective in the affidavit.

Detectives said at 3:35 p.m., they found Barker in the parking lot and detained her. In her purse, police said they found two stamp bags with “Xbox” marked in green ink, as well as a plastic bag of suspected crack cocaine and $1,490 in cash.

Investigators also searched the vehicle Barker arrived in.

“Alongside the passenger seat where Barker was seated, a bundle (10 stamp bags) of white stamp bags marked ‘Xbox’ in green ink was recovered,” detectives said.

Investigators also interviewed the driver and he said he drove Barker to other alleged drug deals. He said some of the preferred locations included the parking lots of Butler VA Healthcare facilities, the BHS Crossroads Campus or at other points along Oneida Valley Road.

“Barker was to pay him $50 in cash for driving her,” detectives said.

Barker is expected to appear Thursday for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.
