Butler police arrested a city man who was armed with a loaded handgun after he allegedly tore up his house during a domestic dispute with his wife.

Razi Uddin, 46, is being held in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail. He is charged with carrying a firearm without a concealed carry license, a felony, and simple assault, a misdemeanor.

Police were called about 2:30 a.m. Friday to the defendant’s home in the 400 block of Hazel Avenue following the marital fight, according to court documents

Uddin’s wife, Lois Smith, reported that her husband had “destroyed the house” a police affidavit said. He is accused of breaking a bedroom door and his wife’s cell phone.

During the altercation, police said, he forcibly took Smith’s .22-caliber pistol from her and drove away. She went to a neighbor’s house and called 911. She apparently was not injured.

Officers stopped the suspect in his vehicle at South Chestnut and West Cunningham streets.

Uddin admitted he had the pistol in his left pants pocket. Police said the gun was loaded but it did not have a round in the chamber.

The defendant’s preliminary hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 28 before District Judge William Fullerton.
