Water leak closes A-C Valley School District
The Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District canceled classes Thursday due to a water line leak that left school buildings without water.
Superintendent David McDeavitt said the district maintenance director called him at 6:15 a.m. and reported low water pressure. A half-hour later there was no water pressure.
“At 6:45 a.m. we lost all water pressure. We had none at all,” McDeavitt said.
He decided to dismiss classes, but buses loaded with students were already on their way to the schools.
Elementary school staff contacted all elementary students parents to make sure someone was going to home when the students were returned.
“They worked feverishly to get everything done,” McDeavitt said.
The students were brought into the schools, fed breakfast, put back on their buses and returned home, he said.
He said the Foxburg Water Authority notified him about a water leak Wednesday, but the schools did not have any problems with their water service that day.
