2015 county budget keeps tax rate constant
Butler County is not raising property taxes for 2015.
The county commissioners on Wednesday adopted a $184.2 million budget that does not increase the millage rate.
The tax rate remains 24.6 mills, with 3.9 mills dedicated to debt service.
County Commissioner Bill McCarrier, board chairman, said in an interview that the priority in developing a budget is to maintain services to residents without increasing taxes.
“That’s the main goal to me,” McCarrier said.
Chief county clerk Amy Wilson explained the final budget is $1 million higher than the proposed version due to the privatization of the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Wilson said $1 million owed to the county general fund for subsidizing the nursing home’s deficit is going to be repaid from the nursing home’s operating account.
McCarrier said the county’s best option is to keep the $1 million in the general fund.
“This will help beef it up a little bit,” he said.
