Mars woman airlifted after crash

BUTLER TWP — A Mars woman was seriously injured early Thursday when she crashed her sport utility vehicle into a tree along Meridian Road, authorities said.

June Bowman, 22, was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital following the one-vehicle wreck around 2:50 a.m. Her condition was not immediately available.

Butler Township police said Bowman was traveling south on Meridian Road between McCalmont and Powder Mill Run roads when she lost control of her 2012 Ford Escape after making a sharp turn to the left.

The vehicle crossed the northbound lane and struck an embankment before hitting the tree, according to investigators.

She was in the vehicle when emergency crews arrived. The air bag had deployed, but police did not believe she was wearing a seat belt. Authorities said she was semiconscious while being tended to by medics at the scene.

She suffered major facial injuries and leg injuries, police said. A LifeFlight helicopter flew her to Allegheny General Hospital.

Butler Township Volunteer Fire District 3 and Butler Ambulance Service assisted police.

The investigation into the crash is continuing, police said.
